The insert is then wet sanded through 500 grit sandpaper and tung oil applied while still on the lathe

After cutting the insert blank to size, the tone channel is drilled.

The insert is then reamed out to open up the exhaust.

The blank is then placed on a mandrel and turned on the lathe.

I turn the insert down to size using reference marks on the tool rest.

The insert is then placed in a jig and cut to rough shape on the band saw.

The final shaping is done with files and sandpaper.
